Britain’s Untouched Talent: 39% of UK adults have an entrepreneurial spirit, but don’t know how to use it

LONDON, UK – 17 November, 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd: Over half of Brits find the process of hunting and applying for jobs overwhelming (53%), with 30% having given up in the process as they found it too difficult to navigate. Despite the hurdles, over a third (35%) are still desperate to find employment in their chosen career field.

Research by Samsung UK, reveals that nearly 4 in 10 (39%) of respondents don’t know where to start when it comes to looking for work, with the same amount of people saying they have an ‘entrepreneurial spirit’ but don’t know how to apply it.

When asked what they think is holding them back from seeking out career success, a third of those surveyed said the lack of job-hunting resources such as access to a computer or the internet, whilst 27% cite a lack of experience and 23% don’t know how to craft important interview documents.

The survey also found that socio-economic factors are having an impact, with one in four believing they were overlooked for the jobs they wanted because of their societal status, and 44% feeling like they must work harder than others to reach their career goals.

Of those who are employed, more than half (54%) have accepted whatever job they can get rather than pursuing their chosen career and 42% aspire to change the direction of their career but worry they don’t have the right skills to do so.

The top factors that would motivate adults to go for the job they want:

  • 32% wish they had more confidence
  • 29% wish they knew how to craft important interview documents
  • 24% wished they had the right tech/internet.
